Peace and Bikes

No better combination.

MyrtleCreek

There's something about old heavy iron machinery that makes a good photograph.

a walk in the woods.

It's been awhile since I posted anything. Reflective of my life currently I suppose. A camera phone shot while walking in the community forest.

I can't wait until this thing gets released. Looks rather intense. Welcome to the U.S.A.

Going crazy for plants

This is what happens after too many hours of studying about plants. Tomorrow is going to wreck me. If anyone sees me trying to crawl home from school, stop and give me a lift!

rapture

A good man doesn't drink
And I've been drinking alone
So what does that make me?

My hands they always shake
And no one's calling my phone
So what does that make me?

And I know the kid with his guitar
So drunk and anxious
Has been done to death
So tell me what hasn't
I'll try it

Because I'm selfish enough to wanna get better
But I'm backwards enough not to take any steps to get there

And when you realize it's a pattern
And not a phase
It's what you've become and it's what you will stay
That's ballgame

'Cause I don't got room in my life for anyone else
And I've driven away all the people that could help
And I still don't even know what I need to do to fix myself

There's a clamp around my chest
That tightens every time I lapse into
Another sorry story

About my miserable collapse
A bronze box I keep encased in glass
And dust off whenever I want your pity

Pumpkin Party

Here is a shot of my pumpkin from the pumkin carving party at Sara and Brian's last night. Great turnout with almost 25 pumpkins worth of guts to compost. I'll post some more pumpkins soon.

Catching the rain

Had a chance to spend a few hours out in the woods a few days ago helping Brian put up some water collection instruments to be used in his thesis basin model. This place had been pretty torn up a few years ago by some heavy logging, but was starting to see some rejuvenation.

Reading of the day

Success is as dangerous as failure.
Hope is as hollow as fear.

What does it mean that success is as dangerous as failure?
Whether you go up the ladder or down it,
you position is shaky.
When you stand with your two feet on the ground,
you will always keep your balance.

What does it mean that hope is as hollow as fear?
Hope and fear are both phantoms
that arise from thinking of the self.
When we don't see the self as self,
what do we have to fear?

See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.

Interesting

A strange sight indeed. But not a bad view from the bedroom window.

Earthquake last night

So I experienced my biggest earthquake last night. It was only a 4.6 but big enough to stir a little excitement. It shook the house for about 4 seconds with one quick blast than long, swaying rumbles. The epicenter was about 22 miles north west of here along the mad river fault zone.

Good friends, good times

Joanna and Andy came through Arcata biking from Vancouver towards San Francisco and stayed a couple nights at the paradise shack. They are both teachers in the heart of New York city teaching sixth and first graders the meaning of life. It was great to hear their great stories and reminisce about spending many continuous days on a saddle. They were great company and can't wait to visit them in the big apple.

One of those days

So here I am preoccupied with who knows what. It's late and I've what seems like a pile as high as sarah cynthia sylvia stout's garbage pile of things to get done. Where's the motivation? I've recently caught wind of this Pandora radio station genome project. Everything seems to be connected some how and now they can genetically connect musical notes. My motivation seems to be my Mars Volta channel, which to my delight and surprise occasionaly blasts out some gems like "More or Less" by none other than Small Brown Bike.

It takes more to give than to demand.
I understand. No more demand.
Let's let the waves wash these prints from the sand.
Respect is key.

The Way

When people see some things as beautiful,
other things become ugly.
When people see some things as good,
other things become bad.

Being and non-being create each other.
Difficult and easy support each other.
Long and short define each other.
High and low depend on each other.
Before and after follow each other.

Therefore the Master
acts without doing anything
and teaches without saying anything.
Things arise and she lets them come;
things disappear and she lets them go.
She has but doesn't possess,
acts but doesn't expect.
When her work is done, she forgets it.
That is why it lasts forever.

Fingerstyle Todd

I was finally fortunate to see my buddy Todd play his fingerstyle guitar tunes at the Blue Lake Folk Festival this afternoon. I unfortunately messed up the recording device and only got the last song of the set. I did get a few nice shots which hopefully make up for my failures. Sorry Todd!

On the road again... for one night anyway.

A little water break en route to Patrick's Point.

Ocean view near Trinidad, and a nicely trimmed mustache.

This is how wood is hauled when you ain't got a pickup.

Glass shards are bad.

Blue Lake Pageant

Green Sport Utility Vehicle

For those of you with a suntan on your neck, but a little green in your blood this might be just the fix.

Slacklining at the beach

Went to Moonstone Beach over the weekend and set up a line on some bolts previous visitors had placed in the rocks. I'm not an advocate of bolting just anywhere, but I couldn't complain about the views.
